About Madison Rotary After Hours:
Our Meetings
The Rotary Club of Madison - After Hours, nicknamed MadCity Rotary, meets on the first and third Sunday of each month
at the Vintage Brewing Company at 674 South Whitney Way. Our meeting starts with a social time from 6:30-7:00 with
club business and a speaker from 7:00-8:00. MadCity Rotary welcomes visitors and prospective members that want to
learn more about Rotary, and see if the group is a good fit.
Our Events
Every month, MadCity Rotary members participate in a local service project and get together for a club social event.
Examples of our club service activities include serving meals at the River Food Pantry or participating in a Habitat
for Humanity build. Our social event activities range from guided tours of the Epic campus to attending a free Live
on King St. concert series.
Our Projects
Our club seeks to make a difference outside our own doorstep by partnering with international clubs to take on larger
projects (such as water sanitation, education, or medical services projects). After selecting a project we raise funds
to support the cause, and gain support form our District and International Foundation to match those funds. We pride
ourselves in making fundraising efforts fun through events such as our annual ugly sweater holiday party.
Our Focus
The club's focus is to bring together young (and young at heart) professionals from around Madison to participate in community
service projects and extend the mission of Rotary within our community and around the world. The club is the first in Madison
to meet 'after hours' on evenings and weekends, making it accessible to busy professionals who might otherwise be unable to
participate. In addition, a low dues structure makes this club affordable to professionals early in their careers.
Our History
MadCity Rotary was founded in November of 2011 by Justin Burnett. Justin's vision was to build a club that would bring together
professionals from around the city to participate in community service projects and extend the mission of Rotary. Justin was
joined by John Locke, the club's first president, Som Varma, the club's second president, and Mac Dempsey, the club's treasurer
who collectively built the club under the mentorship of Dean Ryerson of the sponsoring Rotary Club of Madison - West Towne Middleton.
MadCity Rotary celebrated their Rotary charter in May of 2013 at a fundraising event at the River Food Pantry. By highlighting
service during their chartering event, MadCity Rotary exemplifies the Rotary spirit!
